UNDP Partners with Algorand Foundation to Educate Staff on Blockchain

The Algorand Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting Algorand (ALGO), announced on November 30, 2023, a partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to establish the "Algorand Blockchain Academy."

The UNDP is a leading agency of the United Nations, engaging in efforts to eliminate injustices such as poverty, inequality, and climate change.

It aims to build comprehensive and sustainable solutions for humans and the planet through a broad network of experts and partnering institutions, supporting initiatives in over 170 countries.

The Algorand Blockchain Academy is set to provide UNDP staff with knowledge and insights on the application of blockchain technology. It will be accessible to over 22,000 UN staff across more than 170 countries.

Scheduled to be launched in 2023, the academy will enable staff from UNDP and other UN agencies to receive education and training on blockchain technology and its practical applications for sustainable development.

Exploring the Curriculum of the Blockchain Academy

The curriculum will consist of lectures, workshops, and practical exercises, focusing on the following four key areas:

  • Financial Inclusion: Exploring the use of blockchain to expand financial services to marginalized communities.
  • Supply Chain Transparency: Enhancing supply chain transparency to address issues like child labor and promote sustainable procurement.
  • Tokenization of Real-World Assets: Enabling partial ownership of real-world assets to broaden investor access.
  • Digital ID Development: Creating secure and universal digital ID solutions to support social and financial inclusion.

The beta version of the Algorand Blockchain Academy is slated to start in the first quarter of 2024. It will be rolled out throughout the year to reach staff worldwide.

Robert Pasicko, a UNDP expert in alternative finance and low-carbon development, and Doro Unger-Lee, Head of Education and Inclusion at the Algorand Foundation, have commented on this partnership, emphasizing its significance.

【United Nations Development Programme: Mr. Robert Pasicko】
The Algorand Blockchain Academy will be instrumental in equipping our team with the tools needed to address complex global challenges using blockchain technology.

We are thrilled to be in a position to leverage the credibility and expertise of the Algorand Foundation and key members of their ecosystem in order to upskill, empower, and inspire UN practitioners around the world.

【Algoland Foundation: Mr. Dolo Ungar Lee】
We are excited to partner with the UNDP to promote innovation and technology for the betterment of society.

We see this education and tooling initiative as a critical first step toward identifying and delivering actionable, on-the-ground use-cases of blockchain to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in a number of areas.
