Ethereum's Dencun Upgrade Completed: How to Handle Potential Issues with Blast

Ethereum's major Dencun upgrade was successfully implemented on March 13, 2024, introducing significant improvements like scalability, fee reduction, and enhanced security.

But what happens if there are issues with Blast? Learn about the upgrade's benefits and how to handle potential problems in this detailed overview.

Ethereum's Dencun Upgrade Successfully Implemented

On March 13, 2024, Ethereum (ETH) underwent a significant upgrade with the implementation of Dencun on the mainnet, kicking off its official operation as scheduled.

The Dencun upgrade, a comprehensive update for Ethereum, derives its name from the simultaneous execution of the execution layer upgrade "Cancun" and the consensus layer upgrade "Deneb", which had been progressively implemented on the testnet up until now.

Despite some issues during its testnet phase, the mainnet implementation of Dencun was completed successfully.

Tim Beiko, a core Ethereum developer, reported the finalization of the target block (a process where a new block is confirmed and becomes immutable) in a post on March 13.

Significant Fee Reduction for Ethereum L2

Among the various Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIP) included in the Dencun upgrade, "EIP-4844: Proto-Danksharding" has garnered particular attention.

Proto-Danksharding aims to "minimize the transaction fees on Ethereum L2 as much as possible", with expectations of reducing gas fees for transactions on the Ethereum L2 network by up to 90%.

The Dencun upgrade introduces several key benefits, including:

  • Improved scalability
  • Reduced gas fees (transaction fees)
  • Enhanced security
  • Better interoperability with L2 solutions
  • Improved data storage
  • Promotion of L2 solution development and innovation

Handling Issues with Blast Following the Dencun Upgrade

Although the Dencun upgrade was executed smoothly, it has been reported that Blast, an Ethereum L2 with automatic yield, experienced a block production halt for about 40 minutes due to the upgrade.

Blast provided guidance through an X post on how to address issues with transactions during the downtime.
