"Craig Wright Is Not Satoshi Nakamoto," Rules UK Judge

In a groundbreaking judgment, the UK High Court declares Craig Wright is not the inventor of Bitcoin nor Satoshi Nakamoto, challenging the crypto community's long-standing speculations.

Explore the intriguing details of the case, the identity quests for the real Satoshi Nakamoto, and the implications for the future of cryptocurrency.

UK Court Decides Craig Wright Is Not the Inventor of BTC

In a recent report by BitMEX Research, it was revealed that James Mellor, a judge at the High Court of England, ruled that Craig Wright is neither the inventor of Bitcoin nor Satoshi Nakamoto.

Who Is Craig Wright?

Craig Wright, an Australian computer scientist, is widely known for claiming to be the mysterious figure "Satoshi Nakamoto," who is credited with creating Bitcoin (BTC).

Wright first gained attention in October 2015 at a Bitcoin investors conference in Las Vegas, USA. At that time, many major media outlets published articles suggesting that Wright might indeed be Satoshi Nakamoto.

However, opinions shifted over time, with the prevailing view being that Wright is not Satoshi Nakamoto. In 2018, Bitcoin Satoshi Vision (BSV), a cryptocurrency supported by Wright, was also launched.

Judge James Mellor's Conclusion

Wright, who claims to have invented Bitcoin, has argued that he holds the copyright to the Bitcoin whitepaper.

However, the Cryptocurrency Patent Alliance (COPA) countered, stating that most of the documents Wright submitted as evidence were forged. The final arguments began in London on March 12, 2024.

COPA pointed out that there is surprisingly little evidence to support Wright's claim of being Satoshi Nakamoto.

The judgment reported that Wright is "not the author of the whitepaper, not Satoshi Nakamoto, not the creator of the BTC system, and not the author of the initial versions of the BTC software."

I will make several declarations that I believe are necessary and beneficial for justice among the parties involved.
Firstly, Dr. Wright is not the author of the Bitcoin whitepaper.
Secondly, Dr. Wright is not the person who operated under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto from 2008 to 2011.
Thirdly, Dr. Wright did not create the Bitcoin system.
Fourthly, Dr. Wright is not the author of the initial versions of the Bitcoin software.

The True Identity of Satoshi Nakamoto?

There are various opinions regarding the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto. In 2021, Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, expressed his belief that Adam Back is Satoshi Nakamoto.

Some have speculated that David Schwartz of Ripple could be Satoshi Nakamoto, though Schwartz clarified in June 2020 that he is not Satoshi Nakamoto.

John McAfee, the founder of McAfee, claimed to know "with 99% certainty" who Satoshi Nakamoto is, stating that identifying him would be easy. However, McAfee died in a Spanish prison in 2021, leading some to speculate that he may have been murdered.

McAfee had shared "15 clues to uncover the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto," explaining that "Bitcoin was conceived over five years by a team of 11 people."
