Starbucks Ends Web3 Rewards Program 'Starbucks Odyssey': Preparing for the Next Step

In a surprising move, Starbucks has declared the conclusion of 'Starbucks Odyssey,' its pioneering Web3 rewards initiative, marking the end of an era for NFT enthusiasts.

Dive into the reasons behind this decision, its implications for current participants, and a glimpse into what Starbucks is brewing for the next phase of digital rewards.

Starbucks Announces the Conclusion of 'Starbucks Odyssey'

On March 15, 2024, Starbucks announced the termination of its NFT-based rewards program, 'Starbucks Odyssey,' effective March 31, 2024.

This program was initially provided in beta to a select group of customers and utilized Web3 technology to offer a unique rewards experience.

Starbucks Odyssey, which began beta service for certain U.S. customers and staff in December 2022, featured a limited-edition NFT collection.

The program offered a stamp rally experience powered by NFTs on the Polygon (MATIC) platform, enabling participants to deepen their knowledge of Starbucks and coffee by completing "journeys" to collect stamps and points, culminating in special rewards and experiences.

However, Starbucks has specified that the beta service for Starbucks Odyssey will end on March 31, 2024, with all remaining journeys needing to be completed by March 25, 2024.

Why Is the Program Ending?

The reason provided for ending the Starbucks Odyssey beta service is to prepare for the next steps in its evolution. While details of what's next have not been disclosed, the official announcement expresses excitement for future developments.

Starbucks has also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to test various methods to enhance the Starbucks community and loyalty, indicating that new Web3-related services might be announced in the future.

Handling of Stamps and Points

Although points earned in Starbucks Odyssey will expire after the program ends, earned stamps will remain usable on 'Nifty Gateway.'

Furthermore, the 'Odyssey Marketplace' will transition to the 'Nifty Marketplace,' where the buying, selling, and transferring of stamps will continue to be available. Stamps can also be moved to external wallets for trading on other platforms.

While the Starbucks Odyssey Discord server will close on March 19, 2024, efforts will be made to provide spaces where members can connect as the program evolves.

Starbucks has been exploring blockchain technology for several years, having announced a traceability tool in August 2020 to allow Starbucks customers to easily check the production information of coffee beans, among other data.
