Google's search engine has taken a giant leap in cryptocurrency management by integrating Ethereum Name Service (ENS), enabling users to easily check ETH balances, wallet addresses, and more through ENS domain searches.
This groundbreaking update, fetching data via Etherscan, marks a significant enhancement in how users interact with digital currencies online, pointing to a future where managing and transacting in cryptocurrencies becomes as easy as typing a name.

ENS Integration: A Leap Forward in Cryptocurrency Management
In a significant update to its search engine capabilities, Google has now integrated support for Ethereum Name Service (ENS), enabling users to conduct searches for ENS domain names directly on Google.
This development allows for the display of cryptocurrency balances, including ETH holdings and wallet addresses associated with the searched ENS domains.
Launched in May 2017, Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is a Web3-related naming service built on the Ethereum blockchain.
It serves to simplify the complex strings of numbers and letters that constitute cryptocurrency wallet addresses into easily understandable and memorable strings like "myname.eth".
Traditionally, Ethereum wallet addresses are comprised of complex sequences such as "0x43fe...", which have posed risks of mistaken transactions.
However, with the use of ENS, the process of sending and receiving cryptocurrencies becomes significantly easier, as it allows for the use of straightforward strings.
Google's Evolving Cryptocurrency Search Functionality
As of May 2023, Google had already implemented a feature that enabled the checking of balances by searching ETH addresses.
The latest update expands this functionality to include ENS domain searches, marking a significant advancement in how users can interact with cryptocurrency information via Google search.
This new feature retrieves data through Etherscan, displaying information such as ETH holdings, ENS domain names, and wallet addresses for existing ENS domains.
Additionally, details can be further explored by clicking on an Etherscan.io button, providing users with a deeper dive into their queries.
While various Web3 domains such as ".wallet" and ".crypto" have emerged within the cryptocurrency industry, at the time of this article's publication, Google's search functionality is exclusively compatible with ENS domains.
The Growing Importance of Web3 Domains
The relevance and importance of Web3 domains, particularly those ending in ".eth", are expected to increase further.
Ethereum co-founder, Vitalik Buterin, emphasized this in January of this year, stating that all Layer 2 solutions should work towards developing CCIP-compatible domain names, allowing for direct registration, updates, and readings of ENS subdomains on Layer 2.
