Development Reaches Final Stage Towards Full Decentralization
Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano (ADA), announced on June 9, 2024, that the Voltaire era, the final phase of the Cardano roadmap, is imminent.
Cardano’s development is divided into five stages: Byron, Shelley, Goguen, Basho, and Voltaire. Each phase has introduced various upgrades such as ADA storage and transactions, staking, smart contracts, scalability, and interoperability.
Voltaire represents the crucial final phase in this long-term development plan, transitioning to a “completely self-sustaining system” managed and developed by the entire community, including ADA holders.
Since Cardano’s development phases progress concurrently, initiatives like “Catalyst” and “Intersect,” which play vital roles in Cardano’s decentralized governance, are already underway.
Cardano Node 9.0 to Debut in June 2024
According to Charles Hoskinson, the latest version of the node supporting the Cardano network, “Cardano Node 9.0,” is expected to debut in June 2024.
The release of “Cardano Node 9.0” signifies the completion of preparations for the “Chang Hard Fork,” the first hard fork in the Voltaire era. The hard fork will be executed once 70% of the stake pool operators (SPOs) supporting Cardano have adopted the new node, officially ushering in the Voltaire era.
During the Voltaire era, the full-scale launch of the decentralized governance system will take place, where crucial decisions are made through voting by ADA holders.
Hoskinson remarked, “The Voltaire era will be the most significant milestone in Cardano’s history and the industry as a whole,” adding, “Cardano will become a decentralized civilization with millions of residents worldwide.”
Steady Progress Towards True Decentralization
Cardano has been preparing for years to achieve a “truly decentralized blockchain,” and currently, the entire Cardano network is supported by stake pool operators (SPOs) distributed around the world.
To maintain a truly decentralized blockchain network, delegation to SPOs must be distributed. Recently, Atrium Lab has been developing a service called “staking baskets,” which enables distributed delegation to SPOs.
Furthermore, Intersect, mentioned earlier, is a membership organization designed to manage Cardano’s development and operation under community leadership.
In April of this year, the “Intersect Japan Hub,” the Japanese branch, was also established.
Various collaborations have been announced recently, indicating that community-led Cardano management will intensify, and the application of Cardano technology is expected to advance worldwide.
