Vatican Library and Web3 Support Project Expands in Italy
On June 17, 2024, the Vatican Apostolic Library (Vatican Library) announced the launch of its NFT-based project, “Vatican Library × Web3 Support Project,” in collaboration with NTT Data.
This project, initially trialed in Japan in February 2023, aims to leverage Web3 and NFT technologies to expand the Vatican Library’s online community, promoting and preserving cultural heritage.
NTT Data had previously announced on March 28, 2023, its intention to roll out this project both domestically and internationally. The recent announcement marks the commencement of this initiative in Italy.
Supporters to Receive Soulbound Tokens
Participants in the Italian project can earn “non-transferable NFTs (Soulbound Tokens/SBT)” by sharing the project on their social media or making a donation to the Vatican Library by July 16.
These NFTs serve as proof of support and act as keys to access special content from 21 cultural heritage items held by the Vatican Library, allowing holders to view high-resolution images and exclusive collections.
Supporters who share the project on social media can obtain the “NFT Silver,” while those who donate will receive the “NFT Gold.”
NFT Silver holders can view high-resolution images of 15 cultural heritage items on the website, whereas NFT Gold holders can access all high-resolution images of the cultural heritage collection.
Additionally, the project plans to offer new digital content in the future, such as “immersive experiences through XR (Cross Reality),” further increasing the benefits of holding these NFTs.
