The Ethereum Community Conference (EthCC), a major Ethereum (ETH) related conference held in Brussels, Belgium from July 8 to 11, 2024, has seen a rise in reports of robberies targeting cryptocurrency enthusiasts.
Evan L, an X user attending the event, posted on July 9, 2024, that he was a victim of a robbery, stating, “I was robbed an hour ago and suffered severe injuries to my knee.”
Other reports of attempted and successful robberies have also surfaced on X. A representative from KILT Protocol mentioned, “Someone tried to rob me, and I had to fight them off.”
There have even been reports of guns being pointed at attendees, prompting numerous cautionary posts aimed at participants and cryptocurrency holders attending the conference.
With cryptocurrency-related events happening worldwide, criminals might perceive cryptocurrency investors as wealthy targets. It is crucial to remain vigilant when attending such gatherings.
Robberies can occur in regions beyond Brussels, and publicly sharing information about one’s assets on social media can increase the risk of becoming a target for theft or hacking. Therefore, it is essential to maintain a high level of caution in everyday activities.
