Objective of the Collaboration: Enhancing Digital Authentication in Malaysia
On August 16, 2024, Worldcoin (WLD) announced a partnership with MIMOS Berhad, the Malaysian National Applied Research and Development agency, to integrate Worldcoin’s technology into Malaysia’s digital infrastructure.
In this announcement, it was revealed that Tools for Humanity (TFH), the organization behind Worldcoin, the Worldcoin Foundation, MIMOS Berhad, and MYEG, a leading digital government service provider, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
The goal of this collaboration is to "leverage Worldcoin and TFH's technology to improve ongoing digital authentication projects and future initiatives."
Additionally, the MoU signifies that Malaysia will now be able to utilize Worldcoin's iris recognition device, "Orb," allowing residents to obtain a "World ID."
What Is World ID and How Does It Work?
World ID is a digital ID from Worldcoin that verifies a person’s humanity. It can be obtained by completing an iris scan using the Orb. World ID holders are also eligible to earn rewards in the form of WLD cryptocurrency on a regular basis.
The official announcement further mentions that cooperation will extend to "co-manufacturing the Orb" and "connecting the Worldchain with Malaysia’s national blockchain infrastructure."
This suggests the possibility of expanding the use of Worldcoin-related technologies in Malaysia in the future.
TFH plans to offer expertise and support for both the Orb and the World App, while MYEG will focus on technical integration and hardware deployment.
With the growing number of reports on the use of Worldcoin technology, the range of applications for "World ID" and "WLD" is expected to expand even further.
