Play Solana Gen1 Now Available for Pre-Sale at $199

On September 24, 2024, Play Solana announced the launch of the pre-sale for its first handheld gaming console, the Play Solana Gen1 (PSG1), which is built on the Solana (SOL) blockchain.

The PSG1, designed to resemble a classic Game Boy, allows users to enjoy Web3 games based on the Solana network. In addition, it features a built-in hardware wallet, enabling users to manage their tokens directly from the device.

The pre-sale is exclusively available to holders of Play Solana’s NFT, known as "Player 1," allowing them to purchase the PSG1 for $199.

Although the exact shipping date for the PSG1 is not yet confirmed, the Play Solana team has stated their goal to begin shipments by Q2 2025.

"Built Entirely from Scratch" – Addressing Copycat Claims

There have been allegations that the design of the Play Solana Gen1 (PSG1) closely resembles that of the "BitBoy One," a Bitcoin-based gaming console, leading to accusations of plagiarism.

In response to these claims, Play Solana issued a statement on September 25, emphasizing that the PSG1 was "built entirely from scratch."

In defense of the design similarities, Play Solana compared the accusations to saying that "Phantom is a copy of MetaMask," arguing that it’s common for similar ideas to emerge simultaneously, and that comparing their product to others is unnecessary.
