Enhancing Data Availability on Blockchain
Google Cloud announced on September 22, 2023, that it has added 11 types of blockchains to its publicly available datasets in BigQuery to provide more comprehensive blockchain data.
BigQuery is a big data analytics platform offered by Google Cloud Platform, which had already added support for Bitcoin and Ethereum in 2018, and six other blockchains in 2019.
In this announcement, the following 11 types of blockchains have been added, and improvements have been made to the existing BigQuery dataset for Bitcoin by adding 'Satoshi (sats)/Ordinals':
- Avalanche
- Arbitrum
- Cronos
- Ethereum (Görli)
- Fantom (Opera)
- Near
- Optimism
- Polkadot
- Polygon Mainnet
- Polygon Mumbai
- Tron
Advanced Querying Across Multiple Chains
This feature expansion is in response to demands from various customers, including Web3 analytics companies, partners, and developers. With this update, BigQuery can now handle complex queries such as:
- How many NFTs were minted today on three specific chains?
- What is the comparison of transaction fees between chains?
- How many active wallets are there on top EVM chains?
Google Cloud is also offering 'community-managed datasets' in addition to 'Google Cloud-managed datasets'.
These include an Ethereum community dataset (crypto_ethereum) and a Google Cloud-managed Ethereum dataset (goog_blockchain_ethereum_mainnet.us).
This addition allows for richer analysis related to Ethereum, enabling easier queries for wallet balances, specific tokens (ERC20, ERC721, ERC1155), and interactions with smart contracts.
The Total Number of Supported Blockchains by BigQuery
With this new addition, the total number of blockchains supported by BigQuery has been reported to be 19, which are:
- Bitcoin
- Ethereum
- Bitcoin Cash
- Dash
- Dogecoin
- Ethereum Classic
- Litecoin
- Zcash
- Avalanche
- Arbitrum
- Cronos
- Ethereum (Görli)
- Fantom (Opera)
- Near
- Optimism
- Polkadot
- Polygon Mainnet
- Polygon Mumbai
- Tron
