Assurance of "All User Assets Are Safe"
HTX (formerly known as Huobi Global), a cryptocurrency exchange, recently faced a hacking attack, resulting in the loss of approximately 5,000 ETH, worth around $8 million.
In a post dated September 25, 2023, Justin Sun, an advisor for HTX, reported the hacking incident. He reassured that "all issues relating to the attack have been resolved, and all user assets are secure."
Detailed Overview of the Hacking Incident and Subsequent Actions
The hacking attack took place around 10:00 AM (UTC) on September 24, 2023. HTX quickly noticed the hacking and immediately took action to prevent further damage.
As a result, all problems have been resolved, and cryptocurrency trading services have resumed normal operation. Moreover, other assets are also reported to be secure.
Regarding the approximately $8 million worth of stolen cryptocurrency assets, it has been mentioned that "compared to the $3 billion held by users, the amount is relatively small." The stolen amount "only represents two weeks of HTX's revenue," as commented.
White Hat Reward Proposal to Hackers
Justin Sun mentioned in his posts that "a white hat reward of 5% of the stolen amount (approximately $400,000) is being considered to encourage the hacker to return the assets."
If the hacker agrees to return the stolen assets, a reward of $400,000 will be offered, and the hacker will be employed as an "HTX Security White Hat Advisor."
If the assets are not returned within seven days, law enforcement agencies will be provided with information about the hacker for further action.
Recent times have seen an increase in hacking incidents involving cryptocurrency exchanges, with another hacking incident occurring this month at the cryptocurrency exchange "CoinEx."
