Avalanche Hosts Game Development on Its Subnet

Avalanche (AVAX) announced on March 11, 2024, that it will host the on-chain version of the popular MMORPG "MapleStory," operated by the major South Korean game development company NEXON, on its subnet.

MapleStory, launched in 2003, is a free online RPG game that has gained strong popularity worldwide, especially in Asia.

This game boasts over 180 million users and made headlines in 2022 with the announcement of its blockchain game transformation, incorporating a Play to Earn (P2E) mechanism.

The on-chain version of MapleStory, named "MapleStory Universe," previously utilized the L2 blockchain Polygon (MATIC). However, the latest announcement reports that the game will now unfold on Avalanche's subnet.

Furthermore, it's reported that the Web3 version of MapleStory allows for the creation of unique worlds and items using NFTs, enabling players to earn rewards through the game.

"MapleStory N" (PC Version) Set to Launch by End of 2024 on Avalanche

The deployment of the game on Avalanche will utilize "AvaCloud," a distributed cloud service related to Avalanche, allowing for game development without the need for other implementation partners.
