MetaMask to Support Bitcoin as Early as Next Month?

MetaMask, the renowned cryptocurrency wallet, is set to officially support Bitcoin (BTC) as early as next month, according to a CoinDesk report.

This integration will make MetaMask even more versatile, adding to its already extensive support for various blockchains. Initially, a limited set of Bitcoin functionalities will be available, expanding over time.

This development is highly anticipated, given MetaMask's existing support for multiple blockchains and previous third-party extensions for Bitcoin. Stay updated for the latest in Bitcoin news and MetaMask developments.

MetaMask's Potential Bitcoin Integration

MetaMask, the popular cryptocurrency wallet, is preparing to officially support Bitcoin (BTC), as revealed by a report from "CoinDesk".

MetaMask is a well-known cryptocurrency wallet compatible with multiple blockchains, currently available as a browser extension and a mobile wallet app.

While MetaMask primarily supports Ethereum (ETH) and other Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) related blockchains, it has not officially supported Bitcoin's blockchain.

However, according to CoinDesk, citing "two individuals familiar with the matter," MetaMask is currently working on integrating native Bitcoin support, potentially launching as early as next month.

Initial Feature Offering for Bitcoin Integration?

The exact features to be provided for Bitcoin integration are not yet confirmed. Initially, only a subset of functionalities may be offered, with the scope expanding over time.

MetaMask already supports various blockchains, making it even more versatile if Bitcoin's blockchain is added. Currently, it supports:

  • Ethereum
  • BNB Smart Chain (BSC)
  • Polygon
  • Arbitrum
  • Optimism
  • Astar Network
  • Oasys
  • Shibarium

MetaMask offers a feature called "Snaps," allowing external developers to add extensions to MetaMask. Last September, a third-party extension called "Zion" was released, enabling Bitcoin management on MetaMask.

However, as this extension was developed by a third party, there is high anticipation for official Bitcoin support from MetaMask.
