Execute Actions Across Various Internet Platforms
On June 25, 2024, Solana (SOL) announced a groundbreaking new feature called “Blinks (Blockchain Links),” which allows users to execute actions on the Solana blockchain across various internet platforms, including X (formerly Twitter).
Blinks (Blockchain Links) is a service that connects various online services with the Solana blockchain. It allows users to execute Solana-based actions anywhere links can be shared.
The official announcement highlights potential actions like voting, donations, issuance, exchanges, and payments. An example provided is incorporating action links in X posts to accept USDC donations via the Solana blockchain.
Diverse Actions: Purchase, Exchange, Donate, Vote, and More
This new feature consists of a protocol called “Actions,” which enables the creation, distribution, and sharing of transactions on Solana via URLs, and “Blinks,” which detects action URLs and expands them like link previews.
Blinks supports a wide range of actions, including voting, donations, issuance, exchanges, and payments.
This means users can not only make donations using USDC but also purchase cryptocurrencies, buy NFTs, and participate in blockchain-based voting.
Approved Services Building Actions
Blinks is co-developed with “Dialect,” a communication protocol based on Solana.
Currently, several services registered with Dialect, including Phantom, Backpack, Jupiter, Tesor, Meteora, Helium, Sanctum, Helius, Sphere, Genopets, Access, Realms, and Truffle, are working on building with Actions.
