Cardano's Crucial Upgrade "Chang Hard Fork" Scheduled for September 1

Cardano's "Chang Hard Fork," a major upgrade crucial for implementing decentralized governance, has been rescheduled to September 1, 2024, to prioritize security and give exchanges and DApps additional preparation time.

Learn how this delay impacts the network and what it means for the future of Cardano's governance.

Prioritizing Security: Extra Time for Exchanges and DApps Preparation

The highly anticipated "Chang Hard Fork," a critical upgrade aimed at the full implementation of decentralized governance in the Cardano (ADA) network, has been postponed to September 1, 2024.

This upgrade is a key step in the transition to the "Voltaire era," the final phase of Cardano's development.

During the Voltaire era, decentralized governance will be fully operational, allowing ADA holders to participate in crucial decision-making processes through voting.

Originally scheduled for around August 27, 2024, the Chang Hard Fork's date was officially moved to September 1 after a meeting of the Chang Hard Fork working group on August 24.

This delay was made to ensure the upgrade is executed safely and reliably, providing exchanges and decentralized applications (DApps) with additional time to prepare.

Upgrade Preparations Progressing Smoothly

Cardano has consistently prioritized the safe and secure execution of its major upgrades, which has allowed the network to maintain its reputation as a robust and secure blockchain.

Although the Chang Hard Fork is slightly delayed, it has been reported that "84% of stake pools (SPOs) have already completed their preparations," indicating that the upgrade could proceed once exchanges and DApps finalize their readiness.

One of the conditions for the upgrade, having 70% of SPOs ready, has already been met.

Simultaneously, preparations for the introduction of decentralized governance are advancing.
