What is Clipper Malware?
On September 14, 2024, cryptocurrency exchange BINANCE issued a global alert warning about the spread of malware that changes withdrawal addresses during transactions to steal cryptocurrency.
This malware, known as "Clipper Malware," intercepts data copied to a user's clipboard and replaces the intended wallet address with another address, tricking users into sending their cryptocurrency to the attacker's wallet.
When users, unaware of the malware's presence, copy and paste a wallet address and proceed with the transaction, the cryptocurrency is sent to the attacker's address, resulting in the theft of their funds.
High Risk for Web, Android, and iOS Users
According to BINANCE's report, Clipper Malware is being distributed as apps or plugins across Web, Android, and iOS platforms.
While iOS users are urged to be cautious, BINANCE emphasizes that Android and Web app users are at particularly high risk.
The incidence of this malware has surged since August 27, 2024, and BINANCE is actively blacklisting attackers' wallet addresses to prevent further losses.
