Successful Launch of Ethereum's "Holesky" Testnet

On the 28th of the month, the cryptocurrency Ethereum (ETH) successfully launched its new testnet called "Holesky."

The testnet serves as an important milestone for Ethereum's next upgrade, "Dencun." Originally planned for launch on September 15th, the rollout was delayed due to configuration issues.

Up until now, the primary testnets used in the Ethereum ecosystem have been "Sepolia" and "Goerli." Holesky is set to replace Goerli as the primary testing network.

Innovative Features of the Holesky Network

The Holesky network is designed to address several challenges, such as the scarcity of testnet tokens and a limited number of validators.

Holesky features nearly twice as many validators as Ethereum's mainnet, with 1.46 million validators built into it. The network also incorporates 1.6 billion testnet ETH, referred to as "Holesky ETH."

Holesky is expected to be primarily used for staking, infrastructure, and protocol development testing. It will also be utilized alongside the Sepolia testnet for the development and testing of the forthcoming hard fork, Dencun.

Dencun Upgrade Reduces Transaction Fees

The Dencun upgrade is set to include the introduction of "Proto-Danksharding," aimed at significantly reducing transaction fees in Layer 2 (L2) projects.

As of a developers' meeting held on September 21st, Dencun is largely complete but still requires detailed testing. A mainnet release is expected sometime after the New Year.
