In a world where crypto hacking is becoming increasingly common, HTX sets an example by not only recovering all stolen ETH but also paying a 250 ETH white-hat reward to the hacker.

Delve into the details of this fascinating case, the ongoing risks in the crypto industry, and the importance of securing your digital assets.

Recovered Stolen ETH Returns to HTX

Justin Sun, an advisor to the crypto exchange HTX (formerly Huobi), announced on October 8, 2023, that all the Ethereum (ETH) stolen in last month's HTX hacking incident has been returned by the hacker.

On September 24, HTX was hacked and around 5,000 ETH (equivalent to about 8 million dollars) was stolen. Justin Sun had been urging the perpetrator to return the stolen assets.

At that time, he proposed, "If the stolen funds are returned, we will offer a white-hat reward equivalent to 5% of the stolen amount, around $400,000, and employ you as HTX's Security White-hat Advisor."

HTX Provides 250 ETH as Reward

According to Justin Sun, the hacker returned all the stolen ETH as promised, and HTX also paid a reward of "250 ETH" to the hacker.

The report following the hacking incident stated that "all related issues have been resolved, and all user assets are safe."

Ongoing Hacking Incidents in the Crypto Industry

Hacking incidents involving crypto exchanges have been occurring regularly for years. Recently, the crypto exchange 'CoinEx' and the decentralized cross-chain protocol 'Mixin Network' also suffered hacking incidents.

Even for those who manage their cryptocurrencies in self-custodial wallets, there is always the risk of having your digital assets stolen for various reasons.

Cases of stolen assets being returned are exceedingly rare, so it's essential to take adequate precautions, such as using a hardware wallet, if you hold cryptocurrencies.
