Beware of Fake Phantom Wallet Scam Apps on Apple App Store

The revelation of a fake Phantom wallet on the Apple App Store has alarmed cryptocurrency users.

Designed to look like the official wallet, this counterfeit app aimed to steal users’ digital assets.

Although removed, the threat of similar scams persists.

Learn how to identify and avoid these malicious apps to safeguard your cryptocurrency investments.

Fake Phantom Wallet on the App Store

It has come to light that a counterfeit version of the cryptocurrency wallet “Phantom” was available on Apple’s App Store.

Phantom is a popular cryptocurrency wallet that supports multiple blockchains, including Solana (SOL). It is available both as a mobile app and a browser extension.

The reported fake app was designed to closely mimic the official Phantom wallet, even using the same name, “Phantom | Crypto Wallet.”

However, there are key differences: the genuine app is a utility app sold by Phantom Technologies Incorporated, whereas the counterfeit is listed as an educational app sold by Meta Voxify.

As shown in the image below, the fake app was reportedly displayed at the top of the store as an advertisement, highlighting the need for caution when downloading apps from the App Store to avoid such fraudulent applications.

Potential for Cryptocurrency Theft with Fake Apps

If users download the fake cryptocurrency wallet app and enter their secret keys or recovery phrases to restore their wallets, they risk having their cryptocurrencies stolen.

While the reported fake Phantom app has already been removed from the App Store, similar fraudulent apps may appear in the future. It is crucial to remember that scam apps can be published, and users should remain vigilant.

When dealing with potential scam apps, note that the seller will differ from the official one, and scam reports may appear in the reviews. Therefore, it’s important to thoroughly check the app’s details and reviews before downloading.
