Multiple Users Report Receiving Cash Repayments from Mt.Gox

The Start of Cash Repayments by Mt.Gox and Emerging Issues of Double Payments

In 2014, the cryptocurrency exchange Mt.Gox went bankrupt, and it has now begun cash repayments to its creditors.

Mt.Gox offers various repayment methods, including cash, cryptocurrency, or a combination of both. Currently, they are proceeding with cash repayments, as reported by several users.

Presently, on the forum site Reddit, multiple users have reported receiving repayments via PayPal.

Additionally, Mt.Gox had announced on September 21, 2023, that the deadlines for basic repayment, early lump-sum repayment, and interim repayment would be extended to October 31, 2024.

At that time, it was also reported that repayments to rehabilitated creditors who had provided necessary information might start as early as the end of the year.

Although it may take some more time before cryptocurrency repayments begin, the initiation of official repayments has drawn attention to future repayment processes.

Reports of Double Payments by Some Users

While there are multiple reports of repayments on Reddit, there are also reports of "double payments" from Mt.Gox. According to these reports, the double payments were a result of a system error.

Those affected have received emails requesting them to promptly return the amount of the second transaction to the trustee's PayPal account.

There have been past incidents where recipients of mistaken transfers were arrested for failing to return the funds. Therefore, it is crucial to promptly return any funds in case of receiving a double payment.
